Broadford Visit

As part of transition to High School, our P7 pupil spent the afternoon with the Broadford P7 pupils. He enjoyed having lunch with them and joined the class for P.E. and Health and Wellbeing. Our P7 pupil took it upon himself to send in a thank you card which was very much appreciated by the Head Teacher and school staff. Mr Atkins, HT said

“It was such a lovely card to receive and I read it out in assembly. He is a credit and we look forward to seeing more of him.”

Thank you very much to Mr Atkins and his staff for being so welcoming.

Easter Fun

Pupils enjoyed their last afternoon of the spring term with some Easter based activities including designing and painting their own eggs which they then had fun rolling down the hill in the playground. They also had a Zentangle Easter Bunny activity which involved creating different patterns to decorate their bunny before finishing off with colourful glasses. They then finished the day with an Easter egg hunt. From all at Raasay Primary School, we wish you all a very happy Easter.

Carbon Neutral Islands

On 23rd and 24th March we were delighted to welcome Stewart Bell, Area Co-ordinator Youth Scotland, to Raasay Primary School to deliver a two day workshop on the Carbon Neutral Islands Project. The pupils were invited to tell Stewart all abour their island environment and then took him on a tour of the local area visiting many of our community areas such as the local shop, hall, fire station and Heritage walk. We included a litter pick on the way and, as there had been a storm the day before, we collected a bag full of litter which pupils later categorized and grouped into different materials. Stewart was blown away by the stunning scenery and natural environment here on Raasay. Stewart engaged with the children in various activities during the workshop including: designing and creating their own 3D model eco house; writing a letter to their future self which formed part of a time capsule to be opened 2074!; describe themselves and the things they have around them e.g. the technology they use to see how things would have changed in 50 years time. Stewart also led some after school activities such as special effects make up using biodegradable glitter and materials and parachute games. They also had the opportunity to learn about building a fire and lighting with a flint – they had to show resilience to keep going with the flint until they finally got it lit! Stewart then showed them how to safely use and pour from a Kelly kettle. As part of the two day workshop, we also had a visit from Tom Lisink, Community Energy Scotland and the children presented their CNI Transport Challenge Powerpoint.

Thank you to Stewart for a thoroughly engaging and enjoyable workshop and also to Tom for visiting us at the school.

They took part in the online dance sweepstake where they had to choose the style of dance they thought would win. The winning dance was Roly Poly and the delighted winner named his teddy Roly Poly! A total of £61 was raised and donated to Comic Relief.
