Pictured are the pupils of Raasay Primary School following their recent success at the local Mod. This is the fourth year in recent times that the school has been awarded the Oban Rose Bowl for the most points gained in the Gaelic competitions by a English Medium School. As well as collectively winning the Rose Bowl, the children were all successful in their individual competitions, bringing home to Raasay golds and silver medals.
On Wednesday 30th Raasay Primary School pupils had a visit from the Scottish Police Animal Crime Prevention Unit with their mobile display. This was a very informative presentation with lots of items on display which brought home to the pupils the crimes that are unfortunately sometimes found within Scotland. They had examples of illegal traps and information regarding animal protection and welfare.
Pupils enjoyed being out in the sunshine on their bikes as part of the Bikeability programme. An ice cream was definitely required after all that effort!
On Wednesday 30th May, Raasay Primary School pupils had a stall at the regular Raasay Craft Fair. This was an opportunity to showcase some of the Biodiversity designs that the pupils had been working on – transferring their skills to another medium. They produced a beautiful range of cards, which they designed to incorporate the Biodiversity theme of flowers/plants/wildlife by using lino printing. They also photocopied some of their weaving work and cut out and pasted designs onto card to produce some very artistic and colourful images. As you can see their stall was very popular and they raised an amazing total of over £116 to be shared between their chosen charity of the SSPCA and the Raasay Primary Enterprise Fund.
Each week the school holds a Celebration Assembly to celebrate the successes of all the pupils as they progress through the year. This week our ‘Star’ pupils were Thomas and Hamish and they certainly look quite pleased with their certificates! Well done to all!
We are very grateful to Mrs Anne MacLeod who has kindly been helping Nelly with the singing aspect of her Mod practice. All the pupils who will be taking part in the Mod have been working very hard on their pronunciation and presentation and we wish them well on the day.
Pupils planted beans a few weeks ago and they have certainly grown! Pupils have been observing and recording the growth in their diary and have been learning about the conditions required for growth.
With the beautiful summer weather we’ve been having, pupils enjoyed a sunny P.E. session which was held at the pitch. This was the perfect practice session for our Sports’ Day which will be taking place next month. The pupils will be working on a theme and a programme for the day – which should ensure lots of fun for all. Let’s hope the weather is as good as this!
School pupils enjoyed a visit to Miss Lillian MacLeod and her beautiful Weaving Studio to learn more about the weaving process. It was very kind of Lillian to show us around her studio and she explained the processes involved in using the three different looms that she has. To top it off the pupils were treated to some juice and some of Lillian’s delicious baking! I think we may have some weavers in the making!
The next Raasay Craft Fair will be taking place on Wednesday 30th May and pupils are very excited to have their own stall! This picture shows some of the beautiful pieces of weaving that the pupils have been working on with Miss Lillian MacLeod and they will be on display at the Fair. We also hope to use our lino printing skills to produce beautiful flower themed cards to have on sale. Look out for us on the day!
